Man strikes himself six times, files false report

A man who allegedly filed a false report with the University Police Department also hit himself in the face six times before admitting it was part of a drug deal gone bad.

According to court documents, Rex Monroe called University Police on July 17 to report a strong arm robbery. He told officers he was assaulted by two men who used their fists and a baseball bat. He also said they stole his cell phone and $300 in cash.

However, court documents state while police were interviewing Monroe, his story started to conflict with the timeline of events. Eventually, Monroe admitted to being involved with a “drug deal gone bad” over an ounce of marijuana. In addition, Monroe’s cell phone was actually with his girlfriend despite his claims it was stolen, and officers learned Monroe lost his wallet three weeks prior to the robbery report.

Officers later reviewed security footage that showed Monroe hitting himself in the face six times at the Veteran Affairs Hospital parking lot.
