Man charged in shots fired incident

Charges were filed on Thursday against Demarcus Maxwell in connection to a shots fired incident that occurred over the weekend.

According to court documents, Maxwell allegedly grabbed a woman by her hair near north 7th Street Saturday afternoon. Someone witnessed him do this and pulled over to confront Maxwell about his behavior.

The two argued for about one minute before they returned to their vehicles.

However, once they got back to their vehicles, the witness told authorities he heard three gunshots. He told police that when he looked up, Maxwell was pointing a black handgun at him.

Once officers arrived and conducted a search, they found two bullet holes on the driver side of the man’s vehicle.

The incident happened about 100 feet from Hickman High School.

Maxwell is charged with first degree assault, fourth degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Maxwell is a convicted felon, and a person by the same name admitted to being involved in a shots fired incident that occurred in December 2017.
