Jefferson City teens, child get out of home safely after it catches fire, firefighters say

Three teenagers and a child were able to get out of a burning home safely after hearing the smoke detectors, according to Jefferson City firefighters.

Firefighters said they were called to the 1900 block of Swifts Highway around 8 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a structure fire.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke and flames showing from the lower level of a split foyer home.

Firefighters said the teenagers and child were home at the time of the fire but were able to get out safely.

Firefighters said they did rescue a cat from inside the home.

The fire damage was contained to the room where the fire started, but smoke and heat damage spread throughout the home, firefighters said.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but they believe it’s electrical.

Two adults, four teenagers and a child were displaced because of the fire.
