Moberly man charged for assault after standoff

A Moberly man faces two felonies following an hours-long standoff.

Prosecutors in Randolph County charged Antonio Banner on Friday with domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child. A judge set his bond at $10,000 cash only.

Moberly police forced Banner’s door open just after 10 p.m. on Thursday night. ABC 17 News was on scene as officers carried Banner out of the house screaming. Officers said they were called to the house after Banner locked his family out of it following a fight.

A probable cause statement said Banner began yelling at people inside the house about money issues. One juvenile said Banner threatened him and others with a rock during the altercation, even hitting him in the knee with the rock. Officers claim the people inside got out of the house, and Banner proceeded to lock the doors and windows.

A Highway Patrol negotiator tried speaking with Banner to calm him down, Sgt. Dustin Harrison told ABC 17 News on Thursday night. Harrison said police wanted to go in through the front door to speak with Banner directly, but Banner ran from them when officers entered.

Officers found a rock inside the living room, according to the probable cause statement.

Online court records show Banner is currently on probation for misdemeanor stealing. He pleaded guilty on May 21, and was sentenced to two years of probation. Randolph County prosecutor Mike Fusselman filed a motion to revoke that probation on Friday.
