Tracking a dry start to the week, with more activity for the second half

TODAY: Abundant sunshine, and a southwest breeze this afternoon will contribute to another big warmup. Expect about a 30 degree climb from mid 60s, to mid 90s by this afternoon. With dew points in the low 60s, we shouldn't feel much warmer.

TONIGHT: Skies stay clear overnight, but it's only enough to drop us into the upper 60s by early Tuesday. It's a muggy start on Tuesday, with dew points starting in the low to middle 60s.

EXTENDED: After a slightly warmer and muggier start, Tuesday will likely be the hottest, with heat index values potentially breaking into the low triple digits yet again. Wednesday, heat will build early, before a cold front slides into mid-Missouri from the northwest. Timing is still uncertain, but a later passing front would lead to a hotter Wednesday (upper 90s), with a quicker one bringing a welcomed break from the heat and humidity(upper 80s or lower 90s). Either way, a chance for showers and storms comes alongside this cold front. Timing will also be critical in determining whether we see mostly light showers or storms. Right now, the possibility for strong storms remains on the table, but the threat looks rather low. A slow moving front looks like it may linger, keeping rain chances lower, but still on the board for Thursday. Chances are that most will see rain one day or the other, but not both. This comes with highs hovering around 90. A slim chance for rain on Friday bears mentioning, but the day still looks mostly dry and in the low 90s. Another front looks to roll in this weekend, bringing what may be an overnight chance at some rain Saturday into Sunday.
