Showers possible today and again for the weekend

THURSDAY: A cold front tracking through the region will bring a chance for scattered showers and storms for the morning commute. With rain and clouds in place, the first part of the day will be fairly cool as temperatures slowly rise into the mid 70s. The better chance for rain is south of I-70, and the best chance south of HWY 50. The bulk of the rain looks to exit the region through the middle of the afternoon, with skies slow to clear out. This will bring a brief climb of the temperatures into the upper 70s and lower 80s. With more cloud coverage and rain to the south, highs will be lower towards Jefferson City and the Lake of the Ozarks, only topping out towards 80. Rainfall amounts through the day will be anywhere from a trace to half an inch. Behind the cold front, expect cooler temperatures and winds out of the northwest up to 10 mph.

TONIGHT: With skies clearing out this evening temperatures will fall towards 60 through the night. Winds will be light out of the north up to 5 mph. By daybreak we could see areas of patchy fog for the morning commute.

EXTENDED: The cooler weather sticks around to close out the week, with highs climbing into the lower 80s Friday with nights falling back into the lower 60s. Below average temperatures will continue into the weekend with rain becoming more likely through the day Saturday as a storm system approaches. Periods of showers and t-storms will continue through Sunday as the area of low pressure slowly moves through. Severe storms look unlikely but we will pick up beneficial rain with the potential for a half inch to inch north of I-70 and up to 2 inches south of I-70. Temperatures will also be cooler this weekend, with high temperatures only reaching near 80 and nights in the low to mid 60s.Next week starts off with slight rain chances Monday and temperatures slowly climbing into the mid 80s by Wednesday.
