Lawmakers respond to tragedy at Table Rock Lake

Several state and U.S. lawmakers released statements Friday in response to Thursday night’s tragedy at Table Rock Lake where a duck boat capsized, killing 17 people.

Gov. Parson arrived in Branson Friday morning to visit with survivors and first responders.

U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt also traveled to Table Rock Lake Friday.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragedy at Table Rock Lake. My prayers are with the families and friends who lost their loved ones,” Blunt said. “I thank the first responders and members of the community who have assisted in the response and recovery effort. I will continue to be in contact with state and local officials, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Coast Guard as the investigation moves forward.”

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill was also in Branson Friday, where she was briefed by leadership from the United States Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board.

“It’s encouraging to see the professionalism and cooperation between state and local officials and the two federal agencies investigating this tragedy,” McCaskill said. “I’m grateful to Mayor Best, the Red Cross, and the brave men and women of the Missouri Highway Patrol–particularly the divers who had the worst job of all today. My deepest condolences continue to go out to those families torn apart by this tragedy.”

Missouri Senate Pro Tem Ron Richard released the following statement: “It’s hard to comprehend why a tragedy like this happens so close to home. Today, we will continue to pray for the victims and all who were involved in the accident.”
