Scattered strong storms possible through Thursday Evening
THURSDAY: A strong line of thunderstorms will continue to track through Mid-Missouri as we head into the early afternoon hours. As the line tracks to the southeast it will bring the threat for damaging winds and quarter size hail. Frequent lightning is also a main threat with any storms across the region. As the storms track to the southeast they will gradually weakening with time, with some dry time as we head into the afternoon. Depending on how long the clouds stick around through the day, a secondary line of storms that is expected to develop into the late afternoon/early evening could bring another threat for strong storms. If clouds remain through most of the day, any storms we do see into the afternoon will likely remain below severe criteria. However, if we see clearing through the day and the atmosphere can recover, any storms that form will bring an additional threat of damaging winds, quarter size hail, and an isolated tornado. Heavy rain will accompany any storms, where we could see up to 1.5″ of rain. Temperatures remain on the cool side today, as we likely only will climb into the mid 80s as we head through the day.
TONIGHT: Lingering showers and storms are expected tonight under partly cloudy skies. Any severe threat will dissipate after sunset, with temperatures bottoming out in the lower 70s through the night. Winds will be out of the southwest up to 9 mph.
EXTENDED: A cold front will move through Friday bringing afternoon dry time and pleasant conditions for the weekend ahead. Winds will shift to the north behind this front, ushering in cooler, drier air. There is a chance we could see a few spot storms as we head into the evening hours, as the lower level jet overrides the cold front that will be tracking through the region. For now Friday will remain dry, but if trends continue we’ll likely see more showers and storms as we head into Friday evening. The upcoming weekend looks mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 and nights in the upper 60s. As we head into next week, the pattern looks to remain fairly quiet and seasonal. Afternoon highs will top out near 90 everyday, with overnight lows in the upper 60s. Check back with ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and updates throughout the week.
