Mizzou stands its ground at SEC Media Days
The Mizzou football team met with media members and fans in Atlanta for SEC Media Days ahead of the 2018 season.
Head coach Barry Odom, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. and linebacker Terez Hall represented Mizzou.
This was Lock’s second time at SEC Media Days, and it proved to be much different for the Lee’s Summit native. The senior is a potential Heisman candidate, and he is receiving much more attention. Recently, Mizzou began a campaign to hype up Lock’s senior season. Lock said he still sees himself as someone who always has something to prove. {“url”:”https://twitter.com/AndrewABC17/status/1019716420228272128″,”author_name”:”Andrew Kauffman”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/AndrewABC17″,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;Watch: &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mizzou?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#Mizzou&#lt;/a&#gt; quarterback Drew Lock says he's got a chip on his shoulder heading into his senior season. Lock says he's tired of hearing MU's success is “just because the other team messed up.”&#lt;br&#gt;&#lt;br&#gt;More from the Tigers : &#lt;a href=”https://t.co/K9M21ODoT8″&#gt;https://t.co/K9M21ODoT8&#lt;/a&#gt; &#lt;a href=”https://t.co/L07gCiE1y2″&#gt;pic.twitter.com/L07gCiE1y2&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;/p&#gt;— Andrew Kauffman (@AndrewABC17) &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/AndrewABC17/status/1019716420228272128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;July 18, 2018&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;/blockquote&#gt;n&#lt;script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″&#gt;&#lt;/script&#gt;n”,”width”:550,”height”:null,”type”:”rich”,”cache_age”:”3153600000″,”provider_name”:”Twitter”,”provider_url”:”https://twitter.com”,”version”:”1.0″} Both Lock and Beckner Jr. returned for their senior seasons instead of going to the NFL Draft. For Beckner, he said his decision was never in question. {“url”:”https://twitter.com/TylerMurryABC17/status/1019715865237999617″,”author_name”:”Tyler Murry”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/TylerMurryABC17″,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;For Terry Beckner Jr., there was never a doubt he was coming back to &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mizzou?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#Mizzou&#lt;/a&#gt; for his senior year. Believe it or not, he is tied for fifth in longevity among coaches in the SEC. Odom made it clear his team cannot start the season the way it did a season ago.
Another interesting storyline from SEC Media Days stems from a comment Florida’s Cece Jefferson made on Tuesday. He called the environment at Faurot Field “boring” and “quiet.” Odom and Lock responded by stating Mizzou won the game 45-16. Both said Mizzou fans were “great that day just like all season.” {“url”:”https://twitter.com/TylerMurryABC17/status/1019715214122635264″,”author_name”:”Tyler Murry”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/TylerMurryABC17″,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;Florida's Cece Jefferson had some strong comments during SEC Media Days about the playing environment at Faurot Field.&#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mizzou?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#Mizzou&#lt;/a&#gt; head coach Barry Odom reminded Jefferson what it said on the scoreboard after the game. &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/SECMD18?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#SECMD18&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;br&#gt;&#lt;br&#gt;Web Extra from SEC Media Days: &#lt;a href=”https://t.co/khKeYcr5HH”&#gt;https://t.co/khKeYcr5HH&#lt;/a&#gt; &#lt;a href=”https://t.co/Ojkn0YeTh0″&#gt;pic.twitter.com/Ojkn0YeTh0&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;/p&#gt;— Tyler Murry (@TylerMurryABC17) &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/TylerMurryABC17/status/1019715214122635264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;July 18, 2018&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;/blockquote&#gt;n&#lt;script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″&#gt;&#lt;/script&#gt;n”,”width”:550,”height”:null,”type”:”rich”,”cache_age”:”3153600000″,”provider_name”:”Twitter”,”provider_url”:”https://twitter.com”,”version”:”1.0″} Hall and Beckner both said they believe Mizzou’s defense has the chance to be special in 2018. {“url”:”https://twitter.com/AndrewABC17/status/1019720219143614470″,”author_name”:”Andrew Kauffman”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/AndrewABC17″,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;&#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mizzou?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#Mizzou&#lt;/a&#gt; LB &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/THallStayReady?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;@THallStayReady&#lt;/a&#gt; on the MU's defense:&#lt;br&#gt;&#lt;br&#gt;”Every time you see us step out on that field, we're going to go as hard as possible.”&#lt;br&#gt;&#lt;br&#gt;More from SEC Media Days : &#lt;a href=”https://t.co/K9M21ODoT8″&#gt;https://t.co/K9M21ODoT8&#lt;/a&#gt; &#lt;a href=”https://t.co/dp3JamrhkF”&#gt;pic.twitter.com/dp3JamrhkF&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;/p&#gt;— Andrew Kauffman (@AndrewABC17) &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/AndrewABC17/status/1019720219143614470?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;July 18, 2018&#lt;/a&#gt;&#lt;/blockquote&#gt;n&#lt;script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″&#gt;&#lt;/script&#gt;n”,”width”:550,”height”:null,”type”:”rich”,”cache_age”:”3153600000″,”provider_name”:”Twitter”,”provider_url”:”https://twitter.com”,”version”:”1.0″} Mizzou opens the season on Sept. 1 against UT Martin at 3 p.m.
