Boone County woman charged after threatening to blow up jail, deputies say

A Columbia woman was arrested and charged Tuesday night after she threatened to blow up the Boone County jail, according Tom O’Sullivan, a detective with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

O’Sullivan said Maria Scott, 60, was originally arrested after deputies were called to the Midway Plaza on Thursday for reports of a person with an active warrant. Deputies found the man in question, but said Scott tried to interfere with his arrest.

O’Sullivan said while a deputy tried to take Scott into custody, she hit the deputy. Scott was taken to the Boone County jail and charged with resisting and interfering arrest and two counts of fourth-degree assault.

After Scott was released, O’Sullivan said she called the Boone County Sheriff’s Department twice: once threatening to blow up the jail and later threatening to blow up everyone at the department.

Scott was charged with second-degree making a terroristic threat.
