SWAT team responds to apartment in Cole County

UPDATE: Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler confirms the suspect had nine outstanding warrants. When deputies went to find the man, they discovered he had barricaded himself in an apartment on Collier Court.The suspect came out of the apartment after the SWAT team attempted entry. Wheeler told ABC 17 News deputies recovered a shotgun from the scene. More information is expected to be released Tuesday.

ORIGINAL: The Jefferson City Police Department confirmed officers responded to an investigation on Collier Court Monday afternoon.

Police said officers were called to a well-being check at an apartment in the area. A background check showed the person had several outstanding warrants.

According to police, investigators called the SWAT team because they thought the person might be armed.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later.

ABC 17 News has also contacted the Cole County Sheriff’s Office and will update this article with any updates.
