OSHA opens investigation after workers injured at Jefferson City construction site

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation after two people were injured Monday at the construction site for the new Capitol City High School in Jefferson City.

According to the Jefferson City Fire Department, the dispatch center received a report of a fall victim around 8:45 a.m. in the 2500 block of Mission Drive.

Emergency crews found a 47-year-old man conscious with serious injuries. He was taken to University Hospital in Columbia. The fire department said an additional worker was also evaluated for injuries related to the incident, but was not transported.

Rhonda Burke with the U.S. Department of Labor confirmed Tuesday that OSHA opened an investigation with employer, Samron Midwest Contracting, in regards to the incident.

ABC 17 News has reached out to the company for comment and will update this article if we hear back.

According to Burke, OSHA has up to six months to complete the inspection and issue citations and propose monetary penalties if violations of workplace safety and health procedures are found.
