Summer puts on the brakes for now, heat this week easier to take than last

THIS AFTERNOON: We’re continuing to see a gorgeous day settting up across the area as temperatures slowly climb through the 80s. Thanks to yesterday’s cool front, we’re likely to stay in the 80s with slightly lower humidities overall as well. Data indicates a chance at some afternoon storms popping up along a station boundary positioned across I-44, but there is not going to be any widespread thunderstorm activity.

TONIGHT: It will be a pleasant and mostly clear night across the region. Lows will bottom out near 70 degrees with easterly winds up to 9 mph.

EXTENDED: Tuesday, we’ll see a warm front lift from the south. This will bring a return to the very humid conditions, with afternoon highs back in the lower 90s. Despite the warming temperatures, it will feel nothing like it did last week. Daily storm chances look likely this week, as afternoon heating will lead to the development of some storms. Any storms we see will die off after sunset as we begin to lose the daytime heating. A better chance of storms arrives as we head into Friday, when the high pressure ridge over us begins to break down. This will lead to a cold front tracking through Friday, with scattered showers and storms. It will be cooler and drier as we head into the weekend, as highs only top out in the upper 80s.
