Portion of South Sinclair Road to close for 6 weeks
A stormwater project will close all lanes of south Sinclair Road for six weeks starting Monday, according to engineers with Columbia’s Stormwater Utility.
Sinclair Road will be closed from Mill Creek Elementary to Southampton Drive. Drivers will be redirected to Forum Boulevard during the construction.
Construction crews will replace three metal culverts with a 24-foot arch structure. The structure is supposed to stabilize the area, increase the flow capacity and reduce the chance of flooding and clogging from upstream debris.
At the same time as the culvert replacement, Columbia Public Works crews plan to complete the Sinclair Road Sidewalk Improvement project. The project will fill in the sidewalk gap along the east side of South Sinclair Road, south of Muirfield Drive.
Crews said the construction should be completed by Aug. 10, weather permitting.
The culvert project was proposed and funded through the 2015 voter-approved stormwater rate increase, and the sidewalk improvement project was funded through the 2015 Capital Improvement sales tax.
Crews urged drivers and pedestrians to use caution around the construction zone.
