The student representative to the University of Missouri Board of Curators was killed in a crash Wednesday that police reportedly say was caused by a suspected intoxicated driver.

Remington Williams, a recent graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law who was completing a master's of business administration at UM-St. Louis, died in a crash Wednesday, the UM System said in a news release.

Williams died when his Mercedes was struck by a speeding Jeep at 75th Street and Ward Parkway, FOX 4 in Kansas City reported. The station reported the Jeep failed to stop at a stoplight. The Jeep driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to FOX 4.

Gov. Mike Parson appointed Williams student representative to the board that represents the University of Missouri System in 2020. Williams had been offered a fellowship in the system's Office of General Counsel. He received his undergraduate degree at Georgetown College.

The student representative on the board of curators advocates for students at all four system campuses.

“Remington dedicated himself to the service of the University of Missouri,” UM President Mun Choi said in a news release. “As a student of not one, but two System universities, Remington was deeply connected to his fellow students and advocated for their interests to the Board of Curators. He was committed to advancing the mission of the university and ensuring all students had the opportunity to receive an excellent education and an outstanding experience. He will be sorely missed.”
