Tracking a cool and crisp morning with a big warm up on the way

TODAY: Thursday will start crisp and cool, with mostly clear skies; a sort of refreshing morning after the past few. Temperatures and dew points will start in the 50s before we climb temps to about 80 under abundant sunshine. Dewpoints will drop into the low 50s and possibly even upper 40s by the afternoon. This means a comfortably warm day is ahead!

TONIGHT: As high pressure drifts away to the east, showers will try to work in from the northwest. These should remain fairly limited in coverage, and will likely have a lot of dry air at low levels of the atmosphere to contend with. Otherwise, expect more clouds during the first half of the overnight. On it's heels, another round of rain moves in during the overnight, but this time during the early morning hours Friday. This will likely be some remnant shower and thunderstorm activity that looks to pass to our southwest. Fortunately, the core thunderstorm action will pass along a path from Topeka to Joplin and generally miss mid-Missouri. With that being said, we will likely see rain, and may even hear a few rumbles of thunder early Friday.

EXTENDED: The latter half of Friday looks dry, with more sunshine climbing temperatures into the upper 70s. High pressure at the surface starts to build into the weekend to the east. This helps to keep things dry and seasonably normal Saturday, as winds turn southerly. Expect partly cloudy skies and a high near 80. Wind flow from the south increases Sunday, warming temperatures to nearly 90 under mostly sunny skies. By Sunday night, rain chances try to move in as a cold front sweeps in from the north. Rain chances look to fall mostly overnight into Monday, where we begin to warm again to start the week. The cold front doesn't make much impact as high pressure aloft is building in. This will contribute to a relatively dry and warm forecast through at least the next week. It's looking like summer is in full force a little early.
