Stormy Friday morning, hot & humid Memorial Day Weekend
TODAY: Widespread showers and storms are expected to increase this morning, as a growing cluster of storms tracks east of the Kansas City Metro. No severe weather is expected with this round of storms, however heavy rainfall is possible. Storms are expected to track near Hwy 65 from 5-7 AM and approach Hwy 63 as early as 6-8 AM. As the storms track to the east into the morning hours they will gradually begin to fall apart as they lose support from the low level jet. Overcast skies will stick around for the first part of the day, but a high sun angle should help clouds gradually break up to mostly cloudy. We’ll see highs top out in the mid 80s, with winds out of the south/southwest up to 10 mph. Depending upon how much the atmosphere can recover, additional storm development is possible into the late afternoon/early evening hours. Any storms that do form could bring the threat for quarter size hail and 60 mph winds.
TONIGHT: Any storms that remain after sunset will slowly taper off into the night. It’s possible we could see storms stick around, with them being very isolated in nature. Partly cloudy and humid conditions will stick around, as lows bottom out in the upper 60s. Winds will be out of the southwest up to 8 mph.
EXTENDED: Overnight Friday a developing storm system could be affecting our southern counties by Saturday morning, again the best chance looks to be south of I-70 in the Ozarks. Saturday will be hot and humid with high temperatures in the lower 90 and heat indices up to 95 degrees. There is a slight storm chance late in the afternoon and evening but most areas will stay dry and hot Saturday. Memorial Day weekend is looking to remain on the toasty side, as highs climb into the low 90s under mostly sunny skies and nights in the upper 60s. Heat indices (what if feels like when combining humidity and temperature) will reach into the upper 90s. Storms are not expected Sunday or Monday.
