Fulton man arrested after child found with bruising and welts

Fulton police said they arrested a man after they assisted the Children’s Division for a child abuse case.

Police said the investigation occurred in Thursday in the city limits of Fulton.

During the investigation, police found that a child had bruises and welts that looked as if they were made by a belt-like object, police said.

Police said they identified Derek D. Ewing, 33, of Fulton, as a suspect in the investigation. Police said they took Ewing into custody on charges of child abuse.

Ewing was taken to the Callaway County Jail, police said.
