Shooting victim and suspect knew each other, were connected on social media
On Tuesday, Boone County deputies arrested 19-year-old Demontrion Doxley on suspicion of shooting and killing 27-year-old Javonte Roy outside of a home on Pinehurst Lane. He was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Detective Tom O’Sullivan with the Sheriff’s Department said, “We haven’t established a motive at this time. We have some theories that we have been entertaining. But as far as a clear cut motive, we really don’t have one.”
O’Sullivan confirmed that Roy and Doxley knew each other prior to the shooting.
In the past 24 hours, ABC 17 News has been piecing together how Doxley and Roy may be connected.
Individuals who knew Roy told ABC 17 News he has a Facebook profile under the name “Jay Hood.” Since Tuesday, that page added a memorial banner saying that person died.
A Facebook page with the name “Demontrion A. Doxley” appears to belong to the same Doxley waiting behind bars in a Boone County Jail.
A quick check of both of these pages show Doxley and “Jay Hood” are friends on Facebook.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has not released any information on motives for Tuesday’s shooting.
Both Doxley and Roy have a criminal history in Missouri.
In April 2017, Doxley was caught and later sentenced for a minor stealing charge. He was sentenced to two years of probation in September 2017. His sentence was cut short and ended January 2018.
Javonte Roy, the victim of Tuesday’s shooting, was found guilty of discharging a firearm at/from a motor vehicle in 2009.
