Law enforcement officers stop more than 50 cars on St. Patrick’s Day

Columbia police announced on Monday that officers pulled over more than 50 vehicles on Saturday night.

ABC 17 previously reported that Columbia police, Boone County deputies and the University of Missouri police combined forces to remove intoxicated drivers from the roads during the holiday weekend.

Police said on Saturday night between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., 58 vehicles were stopped and a total of 29 people were administered Field Sobriety Tests.

Officers reported five people were arrested for driving while intoxicated, 15 minors were arrested for being in possession of alcohol and four were arrested for being in possession of marijuana.

Police said an additional DWI arrest was made by an officer not taking part in the saturation.

Officers said the enforcement period was successful in removing unsafe drivers from the roadways.
