Controlled burn gets out of hand in Cooper County

Cooper County firefighters responded to an address off of Oerly Drive on Thursday evening for reports of a natural cover fire.

Firefighters said when they arrived on scene, they found several fires burning simultaneously and were rapidly spreading.

Firefighters had to request mutual aid from the Jamestown Fire Protection District and the Prairie Home Fire Protection District.

Officials discovered the fire was caused by a controlled burn that had gotten out of control.

Firefighters reported a total of 50 acres were burned.
