911 recording from deadly police shooting in Clinton reveals new clues
ABC 17 News has obtained the 911 call from the Tuesday night Clinton shootout that ended the life of Clinton Police Officer Christopher Ryan Morton.
Clinton officers thought they were responding to a domestic disturbance on Grandriver Street.
A man inside the house, James Waters, started shooting and three police officers were shot. Officer Morton was fatally wounded but still alive for the moment.
Emergency medical services could not get to Ofc. Morton because of the active gunfire.
Neighbors said they heard the officers “begging” to get to Ofc. Morton after he had been shot repeatedly.
In the 911 call, Ofc. Morton is referred to as “19” in the 911 call. The other two officers who were shot but survived, are referenced as “14” and “18.”
These are some excerpts from the 911 call:
“Shots fired! Central, shots fired. Central, start an ambulance.”
“We got one officer hit in the arm. Can you make it out a window? The glass break and 18? 19, 14 and 18 are all hit with assault rifle fire.”
“19 talk to us! Stay with us! Stay with us!”
“Central, is it safe for EMS to come in? Do we have any further on 19?”
