Woman arrested after child suffers first degree burns

Columbia police arrested Debra Taylor on Wednesday night after officers were dispatched to reports of child abuse in the 2400 block of Milicent Court.

Police said a witness took pot pies out of the oven, cut them up and placed them on a coffee table in front of a 6-year-old.

The witness said he got into an argument with Taylor when she hit the bottom of the plate with the hot pot pie.

The pie struck the 6-year-old in the chest. Officers observed several red marks on the victim’s chest.

The medics on scene advised police that the child had first degree burns.

Taylor faces possible charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
