Jefferson City police arrest man accused of brutally beating elderly woman

Jefferson City police arrested Matthew Johnson on Tuesday after officers investigated a domestic assault incident.

Police said a 74-year-old woman was told her son was on his way to her residence to harm her.

The victim told officers she tried to flee but Johnson knocked her to the ground, drug her across the concrete back into the residence and severely beat her.

The woman suffered fractured bones and multiple cuts. She was eventually able to get help after Johnson left the house on Tuesday.

Johnson is currently in the Cole County Jail and faces possible charges of domestic assault. His bond has been set at $200,000.
