Police arrest man accused of assault, resisting arrest

UPDATE 2/20: Day was charged with assault and resisting arrest.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police arrested Michael Day on Sunday night after officers were dispatched to First Baptist Church.

Officers said Day punched a male victim with a closed fist while being told to leave the business by an officer. The victim had a cut and swelling on his cheek.

Police said they tried to arrest Day but he started to run. He was eventually detained, but resisted arrest by laying on his hands and balling his fists.

Day faces possible charges of third degree assault and resisting arrest.
