Falling temperatures through the day, with freezing drizzle arriving overnight

TODAY: A cold front is slowly tracking through Mid-Missouri, with very cold air to follow. Temperatures in southern Mid-Missouri are in the upper 40s to near 50, while areas north of 70 are already falling into the 20s. Temperatures will continue to fall through the afternoon, with breezy winds building in behind the cold front. The frontal passage will be dry, but expect to see increasing chances for freezing drizzle as we head into the late evening hours.

TONIGHT: Freezing drizzle looks to increasing overnight as temperatures drop towards 20 under cloudy skies. Winds out of the northwest from 13-17 mph will drop wind chills near 5 degrees by Saturday morning. With the warm temperatures we have been seeing, little impacts likely through the overnight hours, as roads will take time to freeze. Best chance for freezing drizzle accumulation will be on overpasses, as well as elevated surfaces.

EXTENDED: Freezing drizzle will continue Saturday south of I-70, with light snow developing north of I-70. Snow will increase Saturday by the evening, mixing with freezing rain south of I-70, turning to all snow through the night. Freezing rain in the Ozarks will gradually change to snow Saturday night, ending Sunday morning. Ice accumulation will range from a glaze of ice near I-70 to a tenth near I-44. Moderate snow is possible north of HWY 24 where accumulation will be highest but farther south, light amounts are expected with some areas only receiving a trace of snow. Sunday will remain cold but dry by the afternoon. Highs will be limited in the 20s all weekend long. Temperatures will rise back above freezing by early next week.
