Warmer to end the week, with winter weather likely by the weekend

THURSDAY: A warm front tracking through Mid-Missouri will warm us into the upper 40s today. Most of the day will see partly cloudy skies, but overall it will be a pleasant Thursday. Winds will remain out of the south southwest up to 12 mph.

TONIGHT: With winds out of the south up to 14 mph temperatures will be a tad warmer tonight, but they will still drop towards freezing. Wind chills will be in the mid 20s by tomorrow morning under partly cloudy conditions.

EXTENDED: Temperatures will reach the mid 40s Friday with more clouds moving in ahead of our next storm system which will affect us from Friday night through Saturday night. A west/east oriented cold front will slowly slide through Mid-Missouri Friday night, dropping temperatures below freezing. Freezing drizzle is possible Friday night as this front moves through with a chance of light snow showers north of I-70. Heading into Saturday, moisture moving in aloft from the west with waves of low pressure, will cause snow to develop mainly north of I-70 by afternoon but farther south, freezing rain is possible before briefly turning to snow Saturday night. Areas near I-44 could see a higher risk for ice accumulation. As moisture continues to feed into the system, it’s likely that we could see I-44 pick up just shy of .20″ of ice. A lot can change between now and Saturday, but trends are suggesting we’ll have a chance of ice and light snow. It will remain cold this weekend, with temperatures in the upper 20s. By early next week temperatures will rebound back into the 40s. Watch ABC 17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
