Crews extinguish small fire on Quail Drive

Columbia fire crews responded to a small fire in the 2600 block of Quail Drive Wednesday night.

The call came in just before 11 p.m. and it took about four minutes for crews to arrive.

They found light smoke coming from the two-story apartment building.

“A small fire was located in a bedroom on the second floor and quickly extinguished with a portable fire extinguisher, said Battalion Chief Tim Bach. “Three people were in the apartment at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.”

Bach credits the working smoke alarms for the safe escape of the residents.

“The Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation and determined the fire was caused by a space heater coming in contact with combustible items,” said Bach.

The amount of damage is estimated to be around $3,500.
