Columbia police arrest man accused of false imprisonment

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police arrested Geoffrey Burris on Monday night after officers were dispatched to Albany Drive in reference to a domestic assault.

Burris was accused of physically assaulting a female victim by grabbing her robe and shoulder, lifting her off the couch and throwing her back down on the couch, tearing her clothing and preventing her from leaving.

Burris was also accused of grabbing the victim’s throat and yelling at her.

The victim said she tried to send her husband a message to call 911 but Burris grabbed the phone and would not give it back.

Police said when officers arrived on scene, Burris went into the basement and would not come out.

Officers said they found methamphetamine, used needles and multiple spoons in Burris’s bedroom.

Police said Burris also damaged the victim’s car and destroyed multiple items in the house exceeding over $1,000.

Burris faces possible charges of domestic assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, property damage, resisting or interfering with arrest, stealing and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
