1 killed in overnight Sunrise Beach fire

One man is dead after an overnight fire in Sunrise Beach.

Firefighters said they responded to the area of Old Sunrise Acres Drive and Beachwood Avenue at 1:26 a.m. for reports of a residential structure fire.

Firefighters said when they arrived on scene, they encountered difficulties with the fire. When crews were able to get into the residence, they found one man dead.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire but the preliminary investigation leads crews to believe that a faulty wood stove was the cause.

Firefighters said the house was “totally destroyed.”

A spokesperson for the Sunrise Beach Fire Department said more information about the victim is not going to be released at this time.
