Warming Saturday, cold Sunday

TONIGHT: It will be warmer tonight with southerly winds in place, but temperatures will remain below freezing with overnight lows holding steady near 27. Clouds will be on the increase ahead of our next system that will arrive as we head into the weekend.

SATURDAY: We’ll have a mild, breezy day as temperatures climb into the mid-upper 40s Saturday afternoon with southerly winds at 12-18 mph, gusting to 25 mph at times. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, but it will be dry.

EXTENDED: There is a slight chance of spotty light rain or rain/ snow mix Saturday night but most areas will stay dry. Temperatures will gradually drop to near 30 by daybreak Sunday and winds will shift to the northwest as a cold front moves through. Colder air moves in Sunday and temperatures will be much colder, falling into the 20s. A fast moving wave of low pressure will move through Sunday, bringing a slight chance of light snow as temperatures drop. This system has been trending drier and snow will be very light or just flurries with little to no accumulation. Arctic air moves in, dropping temperatures to near 10 late Sunday night with wind chills dipping into the single digits by early Monday morning. Our next storm system passes to our south Monday night into Tuesday and brings a chance of rain and snow. This is picking up more moisture and has a better chance of producing precipitation but depends on the track of the low pressure area. In coming days, we’ll have a better idea of it’s track and will pin down types and amounts of precipitation. Temperatures next week remain below average as the cold weather pattern continues.
