Columbia police arrest woman accused of child abuse

Columbia police arrested Monique Gilyard on Thursday afternoon after officers responded to West Middle School in reference to child abuse.

A female child told police that she was hit in the face, back and shoulder area with a belt by Gilyard.

Officers said they saw injuries consistent with the report.

Gilyard faces possible charges of abuse of a child.
