Jefferson City man charged with threatening to shoot woman, abusing child

A Jefferson City man has been charged with abuse or neglect of a child and resisting arrest after officers responded to a potential assault in the 500 block of East Dunklin Street.

According to the probable cause statement, a female victim told police that Brendan McKay became angry, broke her dresser and told her that he was going to hit and shoot her.

The woman also told officers that McKay had beaten a child with a belt which left bruises and welts on her buttocks, her side, both legs and stomach.

Police said when they attempted to arrest McKay, he resisted arrest by pulling away and had to be taken to the ground to be subdued.

Officers said they found a marijuana pipe with residue inside of it while searching McKay.
