Bitter cold Tuesday, with light snow showers into the afternoon

TODAY: It’s a cold and snowy afternoon across Mid-Missouri, with temperatures near 10 degrees and wind chill readings nearly 5 below zero. Light snow showers will bring up to an inch to a good portion of the region, with a sweet spot of up to an inch possible near Benton County. While the snow is unlikely to cause travel hazards, untreated roads will be slick as temperatures stay well below freezing. Wind chills through the day will be below 10 degrees, with northerly winds up to 11 mph.

TONIGHT: A bitterly cold night expected across Mid-Missouri under partly cloudy skies. Lows will bottom out near zero north of I-70 to 5 degrees south of Hwy 50. Winds out of the north will generate wind chills nearly 10 degrees below zero by morning tomorrow.

Extended: The cold is here to stay through Wednesday despite some sunshine. Highs will only top out in the upper teens to near 20, dropping to near 10 Wednesday night. We’ll stay cold Thursday with highs only in the low to mid 20s and a slight chance of snow as another fast moving wave of low pressure moves in from the northwest. After highs in the mid to upper 20s Friday, we’ll drop again by the weekend, staying in the teens for highs with nights dropping into the single digits.
