Bitterly cold air this week and snow chances

TONIGHT: Bitterly cold air moves in with low temperatures dropping to 8 degrees north of I-70 to 12 degrees at the Lake of the Ozarks. Wind chills will dip as low as 4 below zero. Snow flurries will increase by daybreak to light snow showers which could accumulate to a dusting.

TUESDAY: Light snow is possible early in the day, turning to flurries in the afternoon. Total accumulation up to an inch is expected and untreated roads will be slick as temperatures stay well below freezing. High temperatures will only reach the upper teens north of I-70 to near 20 south with wind chills in the single digits due to a northeasterly wind at 7-10 mph.

Extended: Skies clear Tuesday night and it will be bitterly cold by early Wednesday morning with lows near zero north of I-70 and near 8 at the Lake of the Ozarks. A light breeze will generate wind chills of 0 to 10 below zero. Although we’ll see some sunshine Wednesday, it will stay bitter with highs only in the upper teens to near 20, dropping to near 10 Wednesday night. We’ll stay cold Thursday with highs only in the low to mid 20s and a slight chance of snow as another fast moving wave of low pressure moves in from the northwest. After highs in the mid to upper 20s Friday, we’ll drop again by the weekend, staying in the teens for highs with nights dropping into the single digits.
