UPDATE: Silver Advisory Alert canceled for Independence woman

UPDATE 4:30 pm: Troopers said the silver advisory has been canceled.

Troopers said Chitwood was found by the Kansas City police.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Independence Police department issued an endangered silver advisory alert for a missing woman on Friday afternoon.

Police said Betty Jean Chitwood disappeared from the 4500 block of South Crysler Ave. in Independence at noon.

Chitwood is 73, 185 pounds, has brown hair, blue eyes, wearing a nightgown with Mickey Mouse characters on it, blue suede pants and glasses.

Chitwood was diagnosed with dementia and not allowed to drive.

Officers believe she is possibly en-route to the Lake of the Ozarks area to see her son.

Chitwood’s car is a maroon 2017 Ford Focus with license plate CM7Z1S.

Police ask anyone with information about Chitwood or her car is asked to call 911 immediately, the Independence Police Department at (816) 325-7300, or the nearest law enforcement agency.
