Suspect arrested after morning standoff with Columbia police

A Columbia man was arrested Wednesday night after a woman was shot during a domestic disturbance earlier in the day.

ABC 17 News was on the scene when S.W.A.T. team members and crisis negotiators were in a standoff with the suspect, Eugene Mills, in the 1500 block of Fir Place Wednesday morning.

When the man became uncooperative and refused any further contact, officers entered and searched the residence but could not find him.

According to police, an investigation revealed Mills engaged in a physical altercation with a woman he had an intimate relationship with.

The victim told police she and Mills fought over a gun and she was shot in the foot by Mills.

Mills was taken into custody just after 6 p.m. at 800 Hospital Drive.

He is a convicted felon and could be facing charges for armed criminal action and domestic assault.
