UPDATE: Audrain County deputies identify homicide victim as 19-year-old Mexico man

UPDATE 12/13 4:20 pm: Audrain County deputies confirmed during the press conference that the car had crashed into a tree.

Officers said an autopsy was performed on Wednesday and officials found that Jefferson died due to blood loss.

Deputies said they have surveillance footage of Jefferson at a Walmart just before officers responded to County Road 913. Officers are currently investigating what happened during that small window of time.

Deputies said the Highway Patrol aircraft was in the area for another assignment when officers were investigating the homicide.

Officers said there was a weapon on the scene but they are unsure if it was related to the homicide.

Deputies also confirmed during the press conference that investigators are following up on at least 30 leads and do not believe the community is in danger.

UPDATE 12/13: Audrain County deputies have identified the victim as Antonio Jefferson, 19.

Officers said his injuries wee not consistent with a car crash and an autopsy is underway to determine his cause of death.

Roughly 30 investigators from 12 different agencies are following up on leads.

UPDATE 5:50 pm: Chief Deputy James Shrader confirmed deputies are investigating the incident as a homicide, unless further investigation proves otherwise.

UPDATE 4:40 pm: Audrain County officials confirmed on Tuesday that the man was transported to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Deputies said foul play is suspected. Officers said they are looking into the cause of death and a criminal investigation is underway.

Officers said they are contacting family members and the identity of the man will not be released at this time.

UPDATE 4:05 pm: Early reports indicate the call for emergency crews to respond to the county road was for a crash.

Law enforcement arrived and found an unresponsive man in a burned car.

A Highway Patrol plane has been circling the area and the Audrain County prosecutor is on scene.

A Callaway County K-9 unit is also on scene.

UPDATE 3:10 pm: County Road 913 is closed due to the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Audrain County deputies were working an investigation on County Road 913.

Officials would not confirm what kind of investigation they were looking in to.
