Columbia Police searching for shooting suspect after clearing stand-off situation, police say

UPDATE 9:25 A.M.: Columbia police said in a press release that the victim who showed up with a gunshot wound at the Phillips 66 gas station on Rangeline Street early Wednesday morning was a 30-year-old woman.

Police said officers were initially able to contact the shooting suspect inside the home in the 1500 block of Fir Place via phone and outside the residence.

Police said they negotiated with the man to have him meet the officers at the police department, but he became uncooperative.

The man was known to be armed, police said, so they activated the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team around 4:30 a.m.

UPDATE – 7:20 A.M.: Public Information Officer Bryana Larimer confirmed SWAT teams breached the home on Fir Place around 7:10 Wednesday morning and found the suspect was not inside.

Larimer said after establishing phone contact with the suspect, officers believed the person was inside the home. She also confirmed the situation was a domestic dispute and police believe there is no greater threat to the public.

UPDATE – 7:10 A.M.: Columbia police have confirmed the Crisis Negotiation Team is on the scene in the 1500 block of Fir Place. Officers have identified an armed suspect who is currently in the home in question.

Public Information Officer Bryana Larimer confirmed police have made contact with the suspect, though it was not physical contact.

UPDATE – 6:30 A.M.: Columbia police officers and S.W.A.T. team members have surrounded a house in the 1500 block of Fir Place.

Officers told ABC 17 News a female gunshot victim arrived at a nearby Phillips 66 gas station early Wednesday morning.

Police confirmed that incident is related to the activity on Fir Place.

Authorities have widened the investigation area to Lakeview Avenue.

Heavy vehicles, K9 units and a large group of armed, law enforcement personnel are in the area now.

ABC 17 News has crews on scene and will continue to monitor the developing situation.

UPDATE 4:30 A.M.: Officers have broken the police line that had been surrounding a house on the 1500 block of Fir Place.

Crews on scene said there are still a few officers at the house, but it’s unclear with whom police were attempting to make contact and for what reason.
