Crews investigating structure fire on Kohler Circle

UPDATE 8 a.m.: Columbia firefighters said the house fire in the 3000 block of Kohler Circle Tuesday morning was caused by an electrical issue in the kitchen.

Crews said when they arrived around 4:45 a.m., they found an active fire in the kitchen.

Firefighters said they were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arriving.

Firefighters said the family had a working smoke detector, which was the main reason why they were able to get out safely.

The kitchen sustained heavy fire damage, but the rest of the home sustained a significant amount of smoke, heat and water damage, fire investigators said.

Investigators said the estimated cost of damage is $150,000.
