Columbia College softball wins in first round of AMC tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A big third inning helped Columbia College softball get the win in the first round of the AMC tournament over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.

Due to wet field conditions, the game was moved to Battle High School Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

Columbia College got on top first in the bottom of the second with back-to-back doubles from Avgustina Arbova and Skyler Kauble.

The Cougars kept that momentum going into the bottom of the third. AMC Newcomer of the Year, Athena Wheeler, crushed a two-run homer to put them up 3-0.

CC roped together six runs in the third and took the win 8-0.

Catcher Mackenzie Kasarda was two for three on the day with three RBI's. Lexi Dickerson pitched a complete game allowing just three hits and eight strikeouts.

Game two of the tournament will pick up Wednesday at the Antimi Sports Complex. CC will be playing Hannibal-LaGrange Wednesday at noon.
