Firefighters respond to structure fire in south Columbia, report minor damage

Columbia firefighters responded to the 2800 block of Melody Lane for a residential structure fire on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters said they found light smoke coming from an exterior wall of the residence.

Crews were able to find a mostly extinguished fire in the exterior wall of the residence but were able to extinguish it.

Firefighters said the damage was limited to the exterior wall of the structure and estimated to be $3,000.

Firefighters said the fire started when a torch being used by workers ignited combustible materials in the wall.

No injuries were reported.
