Seasonable weather returns to Mid-Missouri ahead of a cold blast

TUESDAY: It’s a chilly afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures are struggling to climb into the upper 30s. Through the day, plenty of sunshine should allow temperatures to top out in the lower 40s, making it a very seasonable day. Bundle up as you head outdoors, as westerly winds from 15-25 mph and gusts as high as 38 mph will give have wind chill values in the 20s. Fire danger is high Tuesday due to the dry conditions and windy weather. Outdoor burning should be avoided.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear skies will remain in place tonight as lows drop to near 30 degrees by morning. Southwesterly winds up to 15 mph will create for wind chills in the teens for the Wednesday AM commute.

EXTENDED: With Mid-Missouri, placed on the westward extent of the upper level trough, we’ll continue to see reinforcing shots of cold air. The northwest flow aloft pattern will continue to pull waves of cold air into the region, with temperatures falling into the 30s for highs by Thursday and overnight lows near 20 with some upper teens possible. There is a chance we could see some flurries to light snow as we head into late Friday as a system tracks to our north. Accumulating snow is unlikely but we’ll monitor and have updates as needed. The weekend will see a slow warming trend as we remain dry. By the start of next week temperatures look to moderate back towards seasonal, as highs will top out in the lower 40s.
