Coldest streak of air since January

The first few days of meteorological winter have been feeling like anything but winter, however that is quickly changing as we work our way through this week. A strong cold front that moved through the area on Monday has brought a significant cool down to all of mid-Missouri. Temperatures Tuesday morning plummeted 30 degrees and it’s only going to get colder.

Another cold front is set to arrive by Thursday knocking our temperatures back another 10 degrees, with a high right around freezing. Highs will remain in the 30s all the way through Saturday.

We haven’t seen a streak of cold weather like this in quite some time here in mid-Missouri. The last time we saw 3 or more consecutive days of high temperatures in the 30s or lower was almost a year ago. This was from January 12-15. During that four day period we saw highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s with overnight lows in the 20s. No snow fell during that cold snap, but a week prior on January 5, Columbia received 1″ of snowfall.

With the chilly week ahead, we are tracking our first chance of snowfall here in mid-Missouri. Even though we may see some snow, it is looking fairly unimpressive. Timing now looks best Friday night into Saturday morning with little to no accumulation. Our northeastern counties look to have the best chance to receive a very light dusting.
