Columbia Police investigating gunshots near Garth and Benton

UPDATE 12/4: Columbia police said officers found multiple shell casings in the area.

Officers said there were no reported injuries or property damage.

The investigation is on-going.

UPDATE 4:10 a.m.: Police have cleared the scene.

Residents in the area of the 100 block of Benton Street said they heard approximately 5 loud gunshots Saturday morning.

ORIGINAL: The Columbia Police Department blocked off a part of Benton Street for a shooting investigation early Saturday morning.

Our ABC 17 News crews on scene saw at least five evidence markers. They also saw police speaking to witnesses and residents in the area.

Police said multiple people called reporting gunshots in the area around 2:55 a.m. When they arrived, they found “what appeared to be a crime scene.” Police said they found evidence at the crime scene, but they wouldn’t say what that evidence was.

Police are investigating whether anyone was injured. At this time, there are no reports of property damage or injuries.
