No injuries after car catches on fire along I-70

A car fire on Interstate 70 in Cooper County caused about a three-mile traffic back up in the eastbound lanes Sunday evening.

Firefighters were called to the 110 mile maker just before 5 p.m.

Cooper County Fire Protection District Chief David Gehm said the SUV was fully engulfed when crews arrived on scene.

Gehm said someone pulled the driver of the SUV over to let them know the back of their car was on fire. The driver was able to get out of the car unharmed.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 5:45 p.m.
