Crews work extrication crash on Paris Road; several victims taken to hospital

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: Two drivers had to be extricated from their cars after they crashed in the 5400 block of Paris Road Saturday afternoon, police said.

Paris Road is back open, but the northbound lanes were blocked off for about an hour while Columbia police and firefighters responded to the crash.

Police at the scene told ABC 17 News crews that one driver, an 85-year-old woman, was heading south on Paris Road when she got confused by the placement of construction cones, headed toward the northbound lanes, and struck another car head-on.

The driver and a 102-year-old woman passenger of the first car were taken to the hospital with moderate and serious injuries, police said.

Police said the driver of the other car, a 25-year-old woman, was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

A 6-month-old passenger of the second car was not injured, police said.

ORIGINAL: Columbia Police Department and Columbia Fire Department personnel are working an extrication crash on Paris Road.

Crews are currently at the 5400 block of Paris Road, near Waco. Parts of the northbound lanes of Paris Road are blocked off while investigators remain at the scene.

ABC 17 News is at the site of the crash, which involved two cars. Both cars have heavy damage.

The Columbia Fire Department confirms the crash involved an extrication. Our crews saw at least three people on stretchers who were taken to a hospital.
