Police arrest man accused of drug trafficking after finding more than 33 grams of methamphetamine

Columbia police arrested John Alexander early Thursday morning after officers performed a traffic stop with a 2003 Buick passenger for having an inoperable drivers side taillight.

Police said when they made contact with the vehicle they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Police said they also observed a black scale near the driver’s side floor board.

Alexander was the passenger and told police he was on parole and had a firearm in his pocket.

Officers said they arrested Alexander and found a black bag that was between his feet.

Inside the bag, police said they found marijuana, numerous capped syringes, plastic bags, a black digital scale, 33.48 grams of methamphetamine, three bags of heroin and approximately $1,362 dollars in Alexander’s pocket.

Alexander faces possible charges of trafficking, unlawful distribution of controlled substance, unlawful for certain persons to possess concealed weapon and unlawful use of a weapon.
