J. Porter shines in MU’s win over Long Beach State
The Mizzou men’s basketball team beat Long Beach State 95-58 in the first round of the Advocare Invitational. Freshman Jontay Porter finished with a career high 15 points. He also had five rebounds and four blocks.
The Tigers are now 4-1 on the season, despite playing without Michael Porter Jr. On Tuesday, MU announced the former Tolton star would likely be out for the season after undergoing back surgery.
Mizzou did not skip a beat on Thursday. MU held LBSU to 35 percent shooting. The Tigers had five blocks. Jordan Geist led all Tigers’ with 16 points. He added seven rebounds and four assists as well. The Tigers had 48 points off the bench.
Mizzou shot 51 percent from the field. The Tigers were 10-24 from three point range. MU did not trail LBSU at any point in the game.
Senior Kassius Robertson had 13 points. He was 2-6 from three-point range. Freshman Blake Harris made his first career start on Thursday. He finished with 11 points and a team/career high nine assists.
Mizzou will now play St. John’s on Friday at 10 a.m.
