Investigators say Carl DeBrodie case coming to a close; no timeline on arrests
It’s been seven months since the death of Carl DeBrodie and as of now, no arrests have been made in the case.
Investigators tell ABC 17 News they are getting closer to making an arrest but have no timeline they are able to tell us.
Fulton police Chief Steve Myers told ABC 17’s Deborah Kendrick he was curious himself because at this point it’s all up to the prosecutor on when charges will be filed.
It’s the case that has a whole town still wanting to know who killed Carl DeBrodie, and what caused his death.
“We are comfortable with the fact that we’ve done a thorough investigation,” Myers said.
Myers told ABC 17 News five investigators worked on the DeBrodie case file, putting in hundreds of hours for several weeks with the help of five other state and federal agencies.
While the investigation may be taking a bit longer than most would like, Myers said they don’t want to mess anything this big up.
“You’re going to miss something if you don’t read and take your time and go through it word for word,” Myers said. “Be patient and let us, and the prosecution go forth. I think everyone will be satisfied when it’s over with.”
Myer’s said since starting the investigation, his eyes have been opened to the lack of oversight Independent Supported Living facilities have. He believes the facilities don’t need more money, it’s just more oversight that will hopefully prevent similar situations from happening in the future.
Callaway County prosecutors told ABC 17 News federal investigators are looking into fraud charges.
ABC 17 News tried to get in touch several times with Callaway County Special Services which was in charge of overseeing Second Chance homes.
CCSS admitted back in May there was a failure when it came to monthly required face-to-face visits. Investigators found those visits likely weren’t happening. ABC 17 News called several times to find someone to talk to regarding what changes have been made since May, we are still waiting for an answer.
